As above Vision left Rosslare for the final time last night, moving at 18/19 knts now off the coast of France, they are not hanging around heading for work alongside the Stena Europe for AML.

Stena Vision has come to a halt off the coast of Portugal this morning, they reduced speed to 10 Knts overnight and since early this morning has been at a very slow 0.5/1.0 knt, a strange place to be slowing down, winds appear to be light in the area.

Vision has arrived in Tanger Med and the Stena Europe is currently berthed to its starboard side, never thought they would be in port together again.

Stena Line has entered into a temporary agreement to share freight and passenger space on the Irish Sea. A strategic collaboration with Irish Ferries will enable essential dry-docking of vessels, whilst ensuring service continuity, quality and reliability.

This temporary agreement will take effect from 20 November until 04 December 2025. During this time Stena Line will operate the service from Dublin to Holyhead with capacity allocated for Irish Ferries customers. Simultaneously Irish Ferries will offer spaces on the Rosslare – Pembroke route for Stena Line passengers and freight customers.

Stena Line customers will travel on the Pembroke – Rosslare route and Stena Line personnel will be on hand at Pembroke Port to assist customers. This temporary change also allows Stena Line to undertake planned maintenance at Fishguard Port, reinforcing the company's long-term commitment to and investment in, service quality and operational resilience.

Johan Edelman, Trade Director for Irish Sea South at Stena Line, said:

"We're delighted to announce this temporary operational model that safeguards continuity of service for our freight and travel customers during essential maintenance and upgrades to our vessels. This collaboration strengthens the resilience of our operations across the Irish Sea and ensures we maintain service reliability."

Stena Line will be informing customers of any changes to travel and bookings can be made directly on the Stena Line website.

In addition to above we were in Fishguard on Sunday & Wednesday this week and the side loading ramp has been partially dismantled with the road deck removed, but the main frame of the ramp still in place, one assumes they will take the opportunity of the enforced temporary switch to Pembroke to complete the removal of the ramp.

Both crossings on the Nordica were very good, on the Sunday just after the storm a sunny day and the seas had calmed down a very busy crossing with passengers from the cancelled sailings travelling, breakfast in the Stena Plus was lovely and enjoyed by all.

On Wednesday afternoon to Rosslare had a heavy freight load and with a flat calm sea, a very comfortable sailing (no hot food in Stena Plus on the trip but no shortage of staff onboard).

New Stena Line vessel ready to set sail for home

Stena Line's newest vessel, Stena Connecta, was officially named at the CMI Shipyard in Weihai, China on October 16, and will soon begin her maiden voyage to her new home port on the Irish Sea. Alongside Stena Futura, which entered service in September, these two new freight ferries will boost freight capacity by 40 percent on the Belfast–Heysham route.

Attending the ceremony were Stena Line CEO Niclas Mårtensson, members of the company's executive team, and Stena AB owner Dan Sten Olsson.

"It is with great pride that we celebrate yet another milestone for our fleet and our company today. Stena Connecta and her sister vessel represent the very latest in maritime technology and will not only play a crucial role in maintaining essential transport links in Ireland and the UK but also make a significant contribution to our sustainability goals of reducing CO₂ emissions by 30 percent by 2030," said Niclas Mårtensson, CEO of Stena Line.

Next-generation hybrid technology

Stena Connecta is a New Max RoRo ship built for maximised freight capacity, with 2,800 lane metres across its 147-metre length. It uses a multi-hybrid propulsion system enabling the use of battery power, biofuel, and methanol and has two 28x4 metre Norsepower Rotor Sails™ that can save up to 9% in fuel on its Irish Sea route between Belfast and Heysham. Its sister vessel, Stena Futura, is also ready for sail installation.

Strengthening connectivity across the Irish Sea

Stena Line is the largest ferry operator on the Irish Sea, with a fleet of 13 vessels (including Stena Connecta, which will enter service in January 2026). The company operates up to 238 weekly sailings, offering a wide network of routes that includes combined passenger and freight services from Belfast to Cairnryan and Liverpool, Dublin to Holyhead, and Rosslare to Fishguard, as well as dedicated freight routes from Belfast to Heysham and Dublin.
This year marks 30 years of Stena Line operations on the Irish Sea, during which the company has played a vital role in supporting both trade and communities across the region.

"Our investment in Stena Connecta and Stena Futura demonstrates our strong confidence in the continued growth of the Irish Sea region and our commitment to strengthening trade and connectivity. These vessels were commissioned as a direct response to customer demand for increased freight capacity on our routes,"
added Niclas Mårtensson.

Stena Connecta will soon begin her delivery voyage from China to the Irish Sea, a journey expected to take several weeks. She will enter regular service on the Belfast–Heysham route from January 2026.
